![]() We were very happy to welcome our March speaker, Superintendent Debra Kubin, to club on March 20th. Being a Mendocino County native, Ms. Kubin is bringing fresh ideas, energy and a sense of community to Ukiah Unified School District. Debra earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from UC Davis and Master’s in Educational Leadership from San Diego State. She brings to us experience ranging from teaching at middle and high school levels to her current position as Superintendent. Having three children ages 6, 6 and 8 she is a very busy woman and shows her passion for education in our community. Ukiah Unified is striving to compete with nearby counties in recruiting and keeping new teachers. This is no easy job when faced with our current fiscal environment but with Ukiah Unified having been fiscally conservative Ms. Kubin feels confident that we will be making changes to move forward in having a comprehensible and functional education system. New standards coming across the country are having exciting new learning opportunities for both teachers and students. It was wonderful to hear from our new Superintendent on how positive the outlook for our children is and to learn how our educational leaders are making great strides for our schools.

![]() Saturday of Service is held annually to provide the opportunity for Soroptimists from all over the world to join together on one day to carry out service projects that improve the lives of women and girls. NCO HandsOn Volunteer Network connected SI Ukiah with a very nice lady in need of assistance with yard and house work. The perfect way to start the weekend! The Soup Bar Luncheon was a great success again this year. The soup was delicious (thank you Zack and Georgia!), the tables were festive and the gift baskets were fabulous as always! The community looks forward to this event every year and funds raised help to provide scholarships, awards and donations. - thank you to everyone that helped.
