HOT SOCKS - COLLECTION DRIVE
Soroptimist International of Ukiah members gather new and gently recycled (clean with no holes) socks for all ages. Family, friends, co-workers, and the general public enjoy getting involved by donating socks or by making monetary contributions to be used to purchase socks.
The collection drive begins in September and continues through October in conjunction with the annual "Make A Difference Day". Make a difference day is the nation's largest day of volunteering which is celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of October. During this time, Millions of Americans roll up their sleeves to help others.
In the year 2000, Hot Socks was the brainchild of Soroptimist International of Yokayo Sunrise member and Past President Linda Simon. Traditionally the main recipient of the socks has been Plowshares Peace and Justice Center which serves meals to homeless and low income families. Socks have also been donated to other organizations such as the Ukiah Senior Center, Nuestra Casa, Project Sanctuary and American Red Cross.
