Soroptimists Donate Handmade Blankets to Children in Need
Ukiah Daily Journal 11/2/11

Redwood Children’s Services, Inc. (RCS) was greatly surprised and  pleased to be presented 50 handmade blankets from a collaboration of women  within the Soroptimist International of Ukiah and Yokayo Sunrise clubs.  RCS  will be distributing these blankets throughout their programs in Lake and  Mendocino Counties including their Transitional Housing Plus Program which  currently has 3 young mothers.

“With so many children, youth and families  in need, the thoughtfulness and generosity  of these women is truly touching", says Willow Anderson, RCS Public Relations  Coordinator.  "Redwood Children’s Services is so happy to be in the thoughts and  hearts of such wonderful women in this community.  We greatly appreciate the  time and effort that has gone into the making of these blankets and look forward  to the joy they will bring our children and  youth.”

The Soroptimist clubs consist of a diverse group  of women all with a common thread that connects them - the desire to improve the  lives of women and children in our community and throughout the world. The  services RCS provides is a good match with the mission of Soroptimist.  As a  non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, RCS serves low-income and at risk children,  youth and families in Mendocino and Lake Counties.

"After learning about all that RCS does for our youth as  the largest provider of foster care and mental health services for children,  serving more than 500 children and youth per year, it was an easy choice to  select RCS to receive the blankets we made," says Tami Glasco, SI of Ukiah  President.  Jannette Lozano, SI of Yokayo Sunrise President added, "It feels good to give something of need to an organization that has served more than  4,000 children since its incorporation in 1995, knowing that they offer preventative, supportive and intensive mental health services to the youth in our community."
